South Wales, 1995
It’s been ten years since the mine closed, and the village is still bleeding. A solitary pub remains with one patron inside, Emyr. Bitter about the past and indifferent to the future, he is confronted by the visit of Simon, an Englishman.
Supported by live music and the songs of Max Boyce, this award-winning, bittersweet drama looks back at the miners’ strike and asks the question: where did the heart go?

Angela John and David Michael will lead an engaging look at Gallie’s life, work and lasting voice. The evening will also feature extracts from a play by Diana Griffiths inspired by Gallie’s novel 'Strike for a Kingdom'.

Joe Webb is one of Neath’s great success stories. He’s a Mercury Music Prize nominated musician who’s shared a stage with Jools Holland, and written songs for Raye. Since leaving Neath to pursue a career in music, Joe has garnered a reputation as one of the world’s most formidable jazz pianists, and Neath Arts Festival is delighted to be staging his homecoming show!
In what promises to be an unmissable event, Joe Webb will be joined by bassist Will Sach and drummer Sam Jesson to perform songs from Joe’s latest album ‘Neath Beat’. The sound draws on the velocity and harmonic imagination of Art Tatum, channelled through a modern, British sensibility shaped by the melodic directness and confidence of Oasis.
